Second Military Workshop on the Implementation of the Political Declaration

The second Military Workshop, co-organized by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, will bring together military experts at the strategic and operational level of the respective Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Armed Forces with specialized knowledge in areas relevant to the effective implementation of the Political Declaration.
The second Military Workshop, co-organized by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), will bring together military experts at the strategic and operational level of the respective Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Armed Forces with specialized knowledge in areas relevant to the effective implementation of the Political Declaration. It will provide an opportunity for military experts of Signatory States as well as international experts to exchange views on strengthening the implementation of the Political Declaration and to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation towards this end.
Building on the outcomes of the 2024 Vienna workshop, this 1.5-day follow-up event aims to move from awareness and exchange toward creating sustainable and practical implementation pathways.
The workshop will provide a dedicated military-to-military platform with the following objectives:
Assessment / Stock Taking
B. Assess available tools and identify gaps
C. Examine how EWIPA commitments are being integrated into military training and education materials
Support progress on implementation
B. Explore practical steps and approaches within these areas that support the humanitarian objectives of the Political Declaration, and that are required for effective implementation by and with the armed forces
C. Strengthen military contributions to implementation plans
D. Ensure continued military-level dialogue
